In God’s eyes we are all worthy. We have all been given the gift of life and the authority to be responsible for how we live that life. Trusting God, we can all be merciful extending that mercy to those we meet along life’s path. He learned that living into the promise of God’s love is to discover true faith.
Today we celebrate as members of the community of God the call to be grounded in faith and supported by others who like us are marked as Christ’s own forever.
Pentecost reminds us that we are part of that great cloud of witnesses proclaiming the power of God to renew the world in love and care for one other. Come Holy Spirit come! Amen.
Jesus chose to call a group of successful men to become his closest disciples when he issued the invitation to them to, “Come follow me.” Some like Peter, James and John left their fishing nets behind to follow. Matthew rose from his tax table, closed the ledger and followed. In following Jesus their lives were radically changed. They witnessed Jesus perform miracles. They learned from him as he opened the Law and the Prophets in new and different ways. They were present when Jesus called Lazarus to come out of his tomb. Their world radically changed after they accepted Jesus’ invitation to follow.
