Celebrating our Nation’s 250th Birthday
Saturday, July 4 at 10:30 am
Mark your calendar and bring family and friends to celebrate July 4 at St. John!
We begin with a service of Morning Prayer at 10:30, including readings and prayers for the nation. Following the service, First Capital Brass will offer a concert sponsored by the St. John Concert Series, concluding with a reception in the Lovelace Commons and the ringing of the York Liberty Bell, donated to the parish in 1774.
As we ring our bell this year, we do so in the spirit of celebration happening across our city, county, commonwealth, and nation. York County’s celebration is scheduled to begin at Noon with a bell ringing at the Courthouse, signaling bells across the City, then across the rest of the towns of York County to ring their bells.
After the festivities, be sure to walk around the corner to visit the History Center Museum and view the newly opened Revolutionary York exhibit in the Brougher Gallery. Finish the afternoon at the Colonial Courthouse to learn about York history and see 18th Century artifacts on display during an open house until 4pm.
York County's Revolutionary-era history runs deep. Our city served as the nation's capital for nine months in 1777-78 while the Continental Congress met here and adopted the Articles of Confederation. The York County History Center is honoring this milestone with events throughout the year, and we are pleased to join the broader York community in these celebrations.
